Meet the Artist: Dana Ellyn

On January 12, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. Mr. Rain’s Fun House will continue its rotating “Meet the Artist” series with a new exhibition featuring local DC Painter Dana Ellyn. Ellyn will host a free lecture at the restaurant to discuss her works and the philosophy behind her unique style, which includes a focus on visual storytelling and social critiques. Visitors will have the opportunity to engage in a dialogue with Ellyn about the exhibit, which will run at the restaurant through February 2012.

Mr. Rain’s Fun House will welcome Dana Ellyn as the first artist in the 2012 “Meet the Artist” series. Ellyn has been painting professionally for nearly a decade since leaving a corporate position in 2002. Her work is exemplified by a risk-taking vision, strong content, and colorful critiques of social norms, straddling the line between social realism and expressionism. Ellyn works with a variety of materials such as watercolor, ink, newspaper, acrylic, and canvas and strives to infuse more emotion and meaning into each new painting she creates.

Mr. Rain’s will be extending its “Starving Artist Happy Hour” until 7:30PM on the installation’s opening night. Guests can relax with a beer ($3), glass of wine ($5), or one of Mixologist Perez Klebahn’s renowned “Elixir” cocktails ($7) while enjoying the discourse and artwork.

Dana Ellyn’s art lecture at Mr. Rain’s Fun House will take place on January 12, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. The event has no cover and is open to the public. No reservations are required (though reservations for dinner are recommended). Ellyn’s works will be on display at the restaurant through February 2012. Mr. Rain’s “Starving Artist Happy Hour” is offered weekly, Tuesday through Friday, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
